I thought they were the originals that I bought on the stands back in the day. Burt now you’ve got me wondering!

In the original first two issues, the sniper fired bullets. When Marvel decided they did’t want to have Doc in the 30’s, they reissued the first two and changed some things.

Sure he didn’t really have any “super” powers and clearly, he was developed for the pulps and therefore, was a “pulp hero” and not a superhero. But I stand upon my statement. And in regards to you point about; “you can’t be an influence and the thing you’re influencing” statement. What about the Golden Age Flash? Clearly a super-hero, yet he influences the Silver-Age Flash, another super-hero, to don costume and fight crime and super-villains as his comic book hero the Flash!

Except Doc Savage is not a superhero! He’s great, probably my favorite character. But a superhero has a defining characteristic: a costume (usually of tights). A superhero gives up ordinary clothing for a costume. You only need 3 things to be a superhero. The other 2 things required are adopting a sobriquet and doing good (usually by fighting a menace normal channels can’t). Doc’s an influence on superheroes. Even Bob Kane said so. You can’t be an influence and the thing you’re influencing. When Vince Sullivan show the sales of ACTION # 1, he told Kane to give him a character “…like Superman.” He gave him Batman.

Still, they say one is in development in 2012 (with no details, though!).

Some new readers probably are used to Conan or the Rambo or Mac Bolan stuff; which is not bad, but I have never heard any collector say that they were looking for Doc Savage stuff. If I find some good deals, I’ll be sure to pick them up. You can’t beat a Steranko action cover!
