A potential future payday will be lost…or, would a creator just see money like an actor (who gets a royalty check everytime a movie/TV show with them gets aired?)

I haven’t even THOUGHT about the legal aspect. A new edition of an old comic is obviously a reprint, but would that apply when transferred to another medium? I guess there’s a sort of precedent for this, such as the runs of comics that have been put on CDs (or DVDs?), but I don’t know if legally this is considered a reprint, or something else.

Of course, for comics PUBLISHED digitally, the idea of reprints will become an invalid concept.

Or is this a whole new way of presenting comics? Would these be covered under previous contracts? Or are companies allowed to handle these as though there is nothing to cover them?

Something similar happened to the “Heavy Metal” movie, where they didn’t have the rights to transfer the music (which was a HUGE part of the movie), so the movie sat for years before being able to go to VHS…less problematic for DVD and digital.
