On April 1, 2006, Mattel began releasing 1:55-scale die-cast models of characters from the Disney/Pixar film Cars. Three movies and 1800 different Pixar Cars individual and multi-packs later and this particular toy line is still going strong. And this week, we've got a wonderful Disney/Pixar Cars collection on the auction block. 

 

In our previous blog, we talked about what helps determine value and while that applies to these toys as well, at one point, these cars were available on a shelf near you for original retail pricing. We've chose five cars whose beginnings were humble but have gained value in the passing years. While not the highest value, these are definitely items you could have in your collection!

 

  • Heyday Junior Moon and Eli Turnpike two-pack from the 2019 Doc Racing Days Series, Blue Desert Line. While Heyday would go on to appear in other packs, Eli Turnpike is what makes this one a little more rare. This set now goes for anywhere between $90-150.
  • Racing Red Mater from the 2021 Racing Red Series. Part of a 15th anniversary collection celebrating the original cars, this special edition was part of a metallic red version release of some of the original characters from the Cars series. No worth around $95.
  • Fair Game from the 2020 Thunder Hollow Series, Blue Desert Line. Fair Game is a notable member of the Hollow Demolition Derby gang. Originally intended as part of a 3 pack that was cancelled in 2017, he was finally released as a single in 2020. Now going for around $125
  • Stu Scattershield Deluxe from the 2017 Cars 3 release. He's part of the Piston Cup emergency staff and makes a very brief appearance in Cars 3. Never released in the US, this one now pulls between $125-150.
  • Vladimir Trunkov with boot from the 2017 London Chase series. While a bootless version circulated somewhat regularly, this version (the only car to have his boot on the back wheel) was a little more rare. Now worth between $135-150.
