So we come to the end of yet another year. My ninth writing blog posts for the Back To The Past website. Time sure does fly by, doesn’t it?
As always, the Christmas season really cuts into my time trying to keep up here, so like previous years I just want to say the traditional Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. I hope you were able to spend the Holidays with someone you care about and that 2018 wasn’t too bad. And of course, I’m hoping that 2019 is better yet!
Usually I drop a couple of “Christmasy” images drawn from Marvel Comics during the week between Christmas and New Years, but this year, for all you DC Comics fans, I’m sharing a couple of images from that company, just as a change of pace.
First up is this rare image from a record album, featuring DC’s big three, Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman! It’s simply entitled; Exciting Christmas Stories. Take a look:
It looks like Neal Adams provided the cover for this long player (lp). As you can see from the little image down in the bottom right corner, it comes from Peter Pan Records, or as they were also known as (aka) Power Records. The album is numbered 8199, though I am not sure the year that it came out. My best guess would be during the 1970s though.
It features three stories. First up is Superman: Light up the tree Mr. President. The second featured tale is, Batman: Christmas Carol Caper and the third and final story is; Wonder Woman: Prisoner on Christmas Island. Sorry, but I have no excerpts to share in this post.
I suspect that you might be able to find a copy via eBay, or you just might want to check in at Back To The Past’s record department. Who knows a copy just might be lurking there! But, sorry no guarantees.
And since I said this would just be a short post, I’ve just got enough time to drop this image of some of the DC heroes around the Christmas tree. It looks to me that John Byrne is the likely artist for this baby! Here it is:
If it is indeed Byrne, then I would guess that this image is from sometime in the 1980s, though maybe it’s Alan Davis‘ work, something about the Robin figure reminds me of Alan Davis. Anyone know for sure?
